1688 Arp Schnitger Organ, Germany

Located in the Ludgerikirche, Norden, Germany. Its current disposition is four manuals and pedalboard with a total of 46 stops.

Schnitger started building the organ in 1686 using pipework of the two previous organs Andreas de Mare (1567) and Edo Evers (1618) with new case and tracker action. After its completion in 1688, Schnitger was commissioned (1691) to add an Oberwerk (a fourth work) playable from the third manual, which he placed in a strategic position facing back for acoustical sake. The second step was completed in 1692. Many alterations followed until Jürgen Ahrend restored it to Schnitger’s original disposition, between 1981 and 1985. It is the second largest Schnitger organ in Germany.
