Jorge Cova is a historical musicologist and interpreter, his special field being early instrumental music theory and performance. He holds a BA with Magna Cum Laude in Composition and Historical Performance from Bethel College, KS, USA and a MA with Honors in Historical Musicology and Historical Performance from the University and Early Music Academy of Geneva.
As a performer, his practice encompasses the repertoire ranging from the 14th to the 18th centuries, written for historical keyboard instruments (organ, harpsichord and clavichord). His technical fundamentals settle upon the Dutch School which he received from his master, Gustav Leonhardt’s pupil, Michel Kiener. As conductor, his mistic inclination lead him to devote to the church music repertoire of the Reformation.
As a musicologist, he made extensive research into extant medieval sources of keyboard music, tablature deciphering and interpretation, as well as into renaissance and baroque extemporized ornamentation. He also contributed widely to the rediscovery of Giovanni Battista Ferrini’s work through a comprehensive text book ushered by his Master’s Degree dissertation.
Natural born pedagogue, he carries on an intensive teaching activity in Geneva, his home town, and overseas.
His overall education is completed by degrees in Linguistics and Science.
